Keeneland requests to move simulcasting to Red Mile

Keeneland Race Course has requested the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to move its simulcasting to The Red Mile except during live racing, its horse sales and major racing days like the Kentucky Derby.

Keeneland has agreed to lease the second floor of the Red Mile grandstand for Thoroughbred simulcasting. Keeneland employees would sell par-mutuel tickets on Thoroughbred races only at ticket windows clearly designated for Thoroughbred wagers.

Since 1997 Keeneland has handled all thoroughbred simulcasting and Red Mile has handled all harness racing.

Included in the application is a letter from the Red Mile consenting to the changes.

The request will be heard by the KHRC on Wednesday.

  1. As per usual the parameters of the deal are completely stupid. Just let Red Mile take all simulcasting and split the pot accordingly after labor and expenses. All the designated windows will do is confuse the betting public and create more problems than is worth it. Ridiculous!
